The museum, which is one of the largest mosaic museums in the world and which houses many unique works, especially the “Gypsy” mosaic, survived the February 6 earthquake unscathed.
The museum, which was found to have suffered no damage after the earthquake, reopened its doors to visitors today.
Gaziantep Museum Director Özgür Çomak said they are happy to meet visitors.
Stating that all necessary security measures have been taken in the museum, Çomak said:
“As a museum, we started the year 2023 very well. The tourist season started very well. In January 2022, 11 thousand people visited our museum. In January of this year, we hosted 27 thousand people. We more than doubled the number. We achieved this before opening of the tourist season in 2022. “We broke the visitor record in 2018, we reached the highest number of visitors in history. This goal will continue in 2023. The number of visitors will continue to increase many times over.”
Gizem Yalman, who came to the region from Elazig on vacation, said that they started their visit from the Zeugma museum.
Expressing that he really liked the museum, Yalman said: “We are very happy, very happy that the museum is open. I hope we don’t encounter such a disaster again. I hope this place will always be open. We came here again . I really liked it, now I took my brother on a tour.” He said.
The museum can be visited from 08:30 to 19:00.
